Summer Learning Journey #Week 3

Activity 2: Printing Prosthetics
For this activity, we would like you to learn more about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms). Please watch this video about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms).
On your blog, tell your readers:

  1. One thing that you learned from watching this video
  2. One thing that surprised you when watching this video

The one thing that I learned from this video was they said making these hands looking like this because they connected it to how kids love super heroes like iron man cause he has a hand like this. Also they are giving them out for free.

The one thing I was surprised at was I never knew these existed I thought only the leg one was invented, also the price surprised me but I understand cause it takes a lot of hard work and time to make these. I'm very surprised that it can work on the kids who lost their palm too.

  3. Good Evening Akesa,

It is Samuel, Mrs. Tui's son as you probably already know. I really enjoyed reading your blog post and at the same time, hear your opinion and thoughts on this topic. 3d printers have always been fascinating to me and it was also a big surprise that they had the capability of creating prosthetic limbs.

Your blog writing was very good, however, maybe the presentation could be lifted through images, colours etc. Apart form that, all in all, very well done, Akesa.

    Kind Regards,
    Samuel

  4. Hey Akesa!

I also really enjoyed learning about prosthetics. I did not know that they were that expensive and aren’t completely funded. I think it’s an awesome idea to use a 3D printer to create new prosthetics for children. That sure is a lot of prosthetic hands! If you had to create a business with a new idea, what would that be?

I didn’t think about that at all. Iron man does almost have a prosthetic arm. Did you watch any of the other Marvel movies? What’s your favourite Marvel movie? Mine is Thor ragnarok. Our very own Taika Waititi directed the movie. How awesome is that?

    Keep up the mahi!

    Cheers,
    Georgia
